Course Descriptions

01

Intro to Integrated Media Design

Integrated Media Design introduces the basics of contemporary integrated design. Concepts such as design history, ethics and intellectual property will be introduced. Through research, planning, testing and iteration, students will learn the process for agile project design methodology while introducing the concepts of intuitive user-interface (UI), user experience (UX) practices. Based on the accumulated knowledge, students are required to develop an interactive design for presentation and portfolio purposes.

02

Motion Graphics Design

Motion Graphic Design teaches students the fundamental principles of both the workflow and executing animation within motion graphic software with an emphasis on storyboarding, animation, sound and timing execution. Students learn how to transition from traditional hand-drawn storyboarding techniques and creative processes into the digital realm. Design workflow and scheduling are key elements to the understanding of how these principles work together to create several projects. This course also explores practical applications and steps necessary to create motion graphics segments for a variety of outputs.

03

Film & Special Effects Design

This course serves as an introduction to the process of video production and post-production techniques. Exploration in the theory and practice of various editing styles is taught in order to gain a thorough understanding of how video narratives are constructed. Through demonstrations and hands-on experience, students learn editing techniques with an in-depth examination of professional nonlinear editing software. To further enhance projects, students create motion graphics and/or special effects using Adobe After Effects. Strong emphasis is placed on post-production techniques that improve the sound, image quality, pacing and overall aesthetic value of the video project.

04

Film Production and Design

Film Production and Design introduces students to the basics of film production. Students will learn the history, screen writing, cinematography, editing and authoring of the film production process. Additionally, this course focuses on the basic and intermediate concepts of professional non-linear video editing and the capability of distributing finished video projects to multiple Internet-based outlets. Upon completion, students will create a variety of short films based on differing genre.

05

Intro to Computer Graphics

This foundational course introduces the use of Adobe software – Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Topics include graphical user interface and current industry application methods and software basics.  Upon completion, students will understand the computer as a fundamental design and production tool.

06

Graphic Design II

This course is a continuation of Graphic Design I, and will focus on the continued practice of digital design creation and production. The history and sociocultural implications of design will be explored along with experiences that highlight strategy, process and messaging. Special emphasis will be placed on visual identity, personal style and application of critical thinking.

Student submission Examples

Motion Graphic Design

In this final project, students created an animated project in After Effects. The story needed to have a solid narrative, highlight an emotion, and showcase skills they gained throughout the semester.

Graphic Design II

Students were given the task of creating a band poster for a band of their choosing. Using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, they learned about shading and effects in InDesign.

In a different assignment, students were tasked with researching and creating typographic posters.

Student Submission Examples

Film Production: Commercials

Check out this roundup of commercials created by the students in IMD 240: Film Production. Students were given random objects and had to create TV-ready commercials to “sell” their objects.

Film Production: Short Films

Students learned all about short films, genres, and how the filmmaking process works. Then, they learned about each stage of how to create a short film, from idea to script to production. Finally, students created their own short films on a topic of their choosing.

What Real LLCC Students Have To Say

The way Jazzy explains an assignment or project is clear and effective. Jazzy has been a great addition to the digital arts department at LLCC. I have learned a lot from her in the few classes I have had with her, especially in Graphic Design 2. She makes things easy
and I have learned a lot from her.

Thurough step-by-step turotials and lectures. Jazzy works very hard on these and her instructions are very easy to follow, allowing for swift understanding of whatever it is she is teaching. She is also very patient with students, eager to answer questions and help in any way that she can

She’s been incredibly easy to talk to, is always available to some degree on Slack and does in class lessons. I’m very glad Jazzy helped me with certain things during film production and design. I hope there can be another film class similar to this one she teaches.
